You are invited to come to Jessie's Grove and step back into the early years of California.
The ranch was established by Jessie's father Joseph Spenker in 1868, when wheat was king in the valley. In 1880 the Lodi and Stockton area raised the largest wheat crop in the world. Joseph had two of the huge wheat harvesters necessary to bring in this valuable crop.
Joseph planted his first vineyard in 1888 - adding more acres in subsequent years. Many of these vines remain in production today and produce some of our most prized wine.
The buildings on the ranch were built from the 1870's to the last large barn con-structed in 1917. The wine tasting room is housed in an 1870's building whose exterior was carefully preserved while necessary structural changes were made inside. Other buildings of interest include a two story house that was built in 1905, and an 1870 barn in the oak grove which houses our museum. New buildings have not been added due to the desire to preserve the authentic historic environment.
